Bio: Emanuel L. Paparella was born in 1942. He believes in
and practices an interdisciplinary approach in teaching and
learning. Has a B.A. (philosophy major) from St. Francis College, an
M.A. (Italian Language and Literature) from Middlebury College, an
M.Phil. and a Ph.D. (Italian Humanism) from Yale University. Has
done one year of graduate work in Comparative Literature at New York
University. He is the author of two books: Hermeneutics in the
Philosophy of Giambattista Vico and A New Europe in Search of its
Soul, plus numerous article in Italian literature and culture, the
European Union and the Transatlantic Dialogue. He is retired, a
former professor at the University of Puerto Rico and the University
of Central Florida. Fullbright scholar at the University of Perugia,
Italy. Has lectured widely and currently teaches Humanities part
time at Barry University.
Honorarium required?: Yes
Amount: $ 100 which includes traveling expenses.

Bio: MJ Hardman is an Anthropological Linguist, Professor of
Linguistics and Anthropology at the University of Florida. Her field
work has been primarily in the Andes Mountains with the Jaqi
languages for which she has written grammars, teaching materials and
cultural studies. She also teaches courses dealing with perception,
language, gender and violence. Part of her research work in language
and gender has included the exploration of metaphors, the patterning
of worldview in language and of science fiction.

Bio: Ken Hurley is in his forth term as President of the
American Civil Liberties Union of Greater Jacksonville, Florida

and has served as a state delegate to the National ACLU Biennial
Convention. The seriousness and diversity of the issues and
questions surrounding the Constitution and Bill of Rights make for a

Bio: Theologian Sheila Harty has a B.A. and M.A. in Theology.
Her major was in Catholicism, her minor in Islam, and her thesis in
biblical Judaism. However, her definition of God more closely
resembles quantum physics and the enigma of chaos theory. Her
theological mentors are Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Ivan Illich, and
Alfred North Whitehead. Harty always employed her theology degrees
within the political field as applied ethics. She worked for 20
years in Washington DC as a public interest policy advocate, 10 of
those years with Ralph Nader as his personal administrator. On
sabbatical from Nader, she taught business ethics at University
College Cork in Ireland. She worked for former U.S. Attorney General
Ramsey Clark and former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop. She
also worked as an editor on staff with the Congressional Budget
Office and on contract with the United Nations University and the
World Bank. In addition, whe worked as a consultant with the Centre
for the Study of International Negotiations in Geneva, the
International Organization of Consumers Unions in The Hague, and the
National Education Association in Dublin. Harty is also a published
and award-winning author. Her first book, Hucksters in the
Classroom: A Review of Industry Propaganda in Schools, won the 1980
George Orwell Award for Honesty & Clarity in Public Language [an
award also won by Noam Chomsky and Ted Koeppel]. This book brought
her speaking engagements around the world and much media coverage,
including the BBC, NPR, and The Today Show with Phil Donahue. She
moved to Florida in 1996 to be near her aging parents, where she
works freelance as an editor desktop publisher.

volunteered as an adult. I am an Eagle Scout and the Southern
Regional Director of Scouting For All. I was the first Eagle Scout
to be thrown out of the National Eagle Scout Association and the
first openly gay man to apply for leadership with the BSA. I have a
Masters in Taxation from Florida International University and am a
practicing accountant with over 12 years experience. I was a member
of the U.S. Coast Guard before the Don't Ask, Don't Tell rule and
experienced, first hand, the witch hunts of the military and
humiliation of being outed by the government - imprisonment, hard
manual labor and forced psychiatric evaluation. I am also HIV+ for
10 years and successfully fought a lawsuit against the Department of
Veterans Affairs from 1995-1997. I currently am an adjunct professor
for a local college and sit on the board of the Wansiki Foundation,
which provides a clinic to HIV/Aids patients through Ryan White and
other medical programs.

age of about eighteen. W.W.2 was in prison for refusing to report
for military service. A member of War Resistors League. Since moving
to Florida have been on many walks and demonstrations with F.C.P.J
and other Peace groups In 1988 was in USSR on a Peace Walk with 200
from USA and two hundred Soviets. We walked from Odessa to
Kiev,(mostly by Bus)Went back in 1992 with a group of students to
find disaster.

Bio: I have presentated on the national, state and local
level on the subject of queer youth and diversity/prejudice
reduction. When presenting I have led individually, as part of a
team, and on panel discussions. A few of the places I have
presented: GLSEN National Conference, Florida Safe Schools Summit,
Florida Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. NYAC National
Conference, Pinellas County Juvenile Welfare Board, Pinellas
School's Catalogue of Choice social work classes, religious
communities, education classes, high school clubs, Raymond James and
Honeywell Corporations, University of South Florida, Equality
Florida's Leadership Roundtable, etc..I am a young, gay, white
American man (with British/German heritage), who is committed to
social justice, queer liberation, feminsim, and men's work. I
founded a Gay/Straight Alliance in high school and a diversity club
chapter (Color Me Human) in college. In addition to the groups
listed above, I have also been active in the Gay, Lesbian and
Straight Education Network, Pinellas chapter and National.
